CSNS Michigan: Data-Driven Strategies to Help End Hunger in Michigan

This case study highlights Michigan’s integrated, data-driven approach to reducing food insecurity through cross-agency collaboration, referral tracking, and targeted outreach.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), in partnership with the Food Bank Council of Michigan and the Department of Education, developed a multi-part strategy to address food insecurity using administrative data.

The project includes building a statewide food insecurity map, improving client experience through a referral tracking system, and conducting on-demand data analysis to identify service gaps and inform outreach. These efforts are designed to close equity gaps, improve coordination between public and private supports, and guide future anti-hunger initiatives with data-informed insights.
