CSNS Mecklenburg: Strengthening Community Relationship to End Child Hunger
Mecklenburg County DSS is coordinating nutrition supports to improve food security and streamline access to benefits.

The Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS) is leading an initiative to integrate government and community nutrition resources, making it easier for families to access programs like SNAP and WIC.
The project includes hiring Food Security Navigators (FSNs) with lived experience to guide applicants, analyzing data to identify service gaps, and collaborating with cross-sector stakeholders to design outreach strategies. The long-term goal is to create a “no wrong door” service model that connects families to benefits efficiently across multiple access points, reducing food insecurity and improving service delivery equity.
