Language and Disability Access in NYC

The NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) is dedicated to enhancing accessibility for individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) and disabilities, ensuring equitable access to city services through comprehensive language assistance and digital inclusivity initiatives.

The City of New York, through MOIA, strives to make information, programs, and services accessible to all residents, particularly those facing language barriers and disabilities. Under Local Law 30 of 2017, city agencies are mandated to:

Interpretation Services: Provide telephonic interpretation in over 100 languages to facilitate communication between city agencies and LEP individuals.
Document Translation: Translate commonly distributed documents into the ten designated citywide languages: Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Bengali, Haitian Creole, Korean, Arabic, Urdu, French, and Polish.
Signage: Display notices about the availability of free interpretation services to inform the public.
