Published in September 2024 under Executive Order 24-01, this document provides Washington State agencies with comprehensive procurement guidelines for generative AI (GenAI) technologies.
Developed in collaboration with the Department of Enterprise Services, it establishes best practices for evaluating, adopting, and managing GenAI systems through all lifecycle phases—requirements development, procurement and deployment, and ongoing monitoring. Drawing from the White House Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, the guide emphasizes fairness, transparency, privacy, accountability, and equity to ensure AI use enhances public services while protecting residents from potential harms.
