San Jose Citywide Data Strategy
The City of San José’s Citywide Data Strategy sets a three-year roadmap to unify data practices across departments, strengthen equity and transparency, and leverage data and AI to improve public services

Developed by the City’s Information Technology Department, the strategy establishes a framework for data governance, setting standards for collection, management, and sharing while embedding equity throughout the data lifecycle.
It emphasizes breaking down silos, consolidating systems, and building staff capacity to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability in city operations. Key initiatives include projects like the Homelessness Data Consolidation Project, development of a citywide data architecture and standards, and expansion of open data dashboards, all designed to foster collaboration, measure impact, and improve service delivery for residents.
