Colorado Digital Service, First Five Years

Established in 2019 within the Governor’s Office of Information Technology, the Colorado Digital Service (CDS) has focused on improving the state’s digital services by embedding small, expert teams into various state agencies.
Over five years, CDS has partnered with agencies such as the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Health Care Policy & Financing to modernize systems, streamline processes, and enhance user experiences. Key initiatives include developing a more user-friendly benefits management system, implementing agile methodologies for project management, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within state government. The report highlights specific case studies demonstrating significant improvements in service delivery and operational efficiency, attributing success to the integration of private-sector talent and practices into the public sector.
