Recommendation of the Council on the Governance of Digital Identity

The OECD's Recommendation on the Governance of Digital Identity, adopted on 8 June 2023, provides guidelines for member countries to establish secure and user-centric digital identity systems that enhance trust and facilitate access to online services.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) adopted the Recommendation on the Governance of Digital Identity to assist member countries in developing robust digital identity frameworks.

This Recommendation emphasizes the importance of security, privacy, and user control in digital identity systems. It encourages countries to create interoperable and inclusive digital identities that can be widely used across both public and private sectors. The guidelines also highlight the need for clear legal frameworks, effective governance structures, and international cooperation to ensure the mutual recognition of digital identities across borders. By implementing these recommendations, countries can enhance digital trust, improve service delivery, and promote economic growth in the digital economy.
