Colorado Case Study: Google Gemini Pilot
A case study describing how a 90-day generative AI (GenAI) pilot using Google’s Gemini tool was conducted across state agencies to assess productivity, creativity, and responsible use in government work.
This resource explains how Colorado’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) launched a structured pilot with around 150 participants from multiple agencies to evaluate the ease of use, accuracy, productivity improvement, and innovation potential of Google’s Gemini Advanced GenAI tool integrated with existing productivity software.
Participants completed regular surveys throughout the pilot, reporting substantial improvements in productivity, reduced stress, enhanced creativity, and better focus on high-priority tasks, demonstrating GenAI’s potential to support public-sector work. The case study also outlines the pilot’s approach — including training, communication plans, and data tracking — and positions it as a model for responsibly testing and eventually scaling generative AI tools in government.
