In 2021, the NYC CTO advanced its mission through initiatives spanning broadband expansion, AI governance, digital inclusion, and public service modernization.
Highlights include the historic $157M Internet Master Plan to bridge the digital divide, launch of the city’s first AI Strategy, and digital service improvements like the CityPay redesign and emergency supply drone pilots. The office also supported civic innovation via NYC Innovation Fellows, created new digital equity tools, and deployed real-time IoT sensors like FloodNet to aid climate response. These efforts were supported by national and international partnerships and community-centered engagement programs.
