25 Million Trees by 2033 Project Page
A statewide initiative by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to plant and track 25 million trees by 2033 across New York State.
Launched in 2024 under Kathy Hochul’s State of the State address, the initiative aims to boost forest canopy, mitigate climate change impacts (like extreme heat and stormwater runoff), and promote equity by expanding tree coverage in underserved communities.
The DEC supports the effort through funding opportunities, modernizing state nurseries, public education and outreach, and a “Tree Tracker” tool to record plantings so every tree counts toward the goal.
