GovDesk Instructions

Generate a new job description

Use GovDesk to create a new digital service job description. Start by entering your Government Name, Job Title, and Type of Government. You also have the option to add Level of Experience, Salary and Benefits, and any additional Boilerplate Organization Language you’d like included; then, hit “generate.”

The more details provided, the more specific and accurate the results will be to your context. It will take a few minutes for your job description to generate, so don’t worry if it doesn’t appear immediately!

Once your job description is ready, you can explore its contents, including an overview of the role, key responsibilities, preferred qualifications, and any other additional specific details you provided. You can copy the job description, download it, or delete it and start over.

We recommend reviewing and revising the output to best tailor it to your organization’s needs. This may include specific information that your HR office requires for job descriptions, or other boilerplate language that appears in all job descriptions for your organization.

You’ll also have the opportunity to view the sources the tool used to generate the job description, along with a detailed explanation of the tool’s reasoning process during development.

Submit a Job Description

You can also submit your job descriptions to GovDesk to analyze and add them to our repository! Using AI, it takes a job description URL, leverages AI-powered webscraping, and provides a clean output of the job description.

Once complete, you’ll be able to copy the job description, download it, delete it and start over, or upload the job description to our repository! Contributing to our repository helps grow our source data and improve GovDesk!

FAQs

What types of roles is GovDesk best suited for?

GovDesk is optimized for digital service roles in government, such as product managers, software engineers, service designers, data scientists, and content strategists. While you can try generating descriptions for other roles, results may vary.

Can I use GovDesk for hiring outside the U.S. government?

Yes, but with any AI developed content, be sure to read and validate the content to ensure it meets your needs.

Can I edit the generated job description?

While you can’t edit the produced job description natively in GovDesk, once generated, the output can be copied into your preferred editing tool where you can revise, reformat, or add localized information.

Is GovDesk secure and private? What happens to the data I input?

Yes, GovDesk is designed to be secure and to protect your privacy. We are committed to transparency, so while your data is stored privately, it may be reviewed to help improve the tool’s performance and functionality.

Can I generate job descriptions in languages other than English?

Currently, GovDesk only supports English-language job descriptions. Multilingual support is a potential feature in future phases.

What should I do if the output seems inaccurate or biased?

We encourage you to review all outputs carefully and use your discretion before publishing. If the initial result doesn’t meet your needs, you can restart the process and add more details for greater accuracy. GovDesk is designed as a starting point, so we recommend editing and refining the generated job description to best fit your specific context. And, we want to hear from you about how to make GovDesk even better – please consider submitting your experience using our feedback form.

When I try to submit a job description, I get an error. What should I do?

If you’re receiving an error message when trying to submit a job description to our repository, there are a few solutions you can try. If the URL has any UTMs or additional parameters, remove them and retry submitting. You can also try  clicking the “submit” button twice or refreshing the page. The AI used to webscrape these URLs isn’t always able to successfully access and scrape the page. We’re continuing to improve this functionality! If you have a job description you want added to our repository but aren’t able to use this function, you can email it to digitalgovhub@georgetown.edu.

Can I request features or report bugs?

Yes, we welcome your input! Please use the embedded feedback form or email digitalgovhub@georgetown.edu to suggest features or report issues.
